Marking Gauge

Yesterday, I made a marking gauge from walnut and cherry scrap wood.  This was an extremely easy build that was also fun.  I intentionally designed the cherry section of the fence to be proud on each side which was a feature borrowed from the Greene and Greene style.  The ends of the square shaft were also pillowed; again borrowed form the G&G style.

The metal point that I used is a stainless steel socket cap screw that was purchased from Home Depot.  I sharpened the screw at the drill press using a mill file.

Works great.

Hardware:
Point: #8-32×1.5” stainless ‘socket cap screw’ from Home Depot.
Thumb Screw: 1/4” x 1.5”
