Design Change (Organizer)

I made a design modification by moving the shelf up.  The original design had the shelf going into a dado all the way around the inside.  After more thought, It became apparent that the glue up was going to be complicated because of this.  Moving the shelf up will make the construction much easier and doesn’t take away from the look of the piece.

The right side of the shelf is now sticking above the right side which is angled.  I haven’t decided yet if I’m happy with this or not.  I might make the sides have a stepped profile instead.  What do you think?

I’m not sure what you mean by stepped profile. I would raise where the cut starts to the height of the shelf and continue the cut to the same endpoint. If the sides have already been cut what about beveling the front of the shelf to the angle of the sides? Either way I’m sure you’ll make it look good.

That’s not a bad suggestion Jay. That’s probably what I’ll do. I have not cut the angles yet.

Thanks for your suggestion and feedback.

I’m with Jay. But I would probably drop the shelf just below the front face just above the drawer though. That way the angle doesn’t have to change. I’m also with Jay that…either way you’ll make it look good.

I thought about that, but the only problem is that expansion/contraction of the shelf would cause problems. I’ve glued up the case and it seems to look ok so far. Drawer is next 🙂
