Finished. G&G Desk Build

Sunday, September 28th, 2014

I applied one coat of finish so far and will apply a couple more. I used a home-made blend of pure tung oil, varnish, and mineral spirits in equal parts. I am really happy with how well this project turned out. I really love the G&G style and this build was a great skill enhancer.

I filmed the entire build and you can watch it in my video page. Part 6, which is the final video, will be released this Friday.

Ebony Splines are In!

They are glued on the core side only and float in the breadboard end. I removed the excess ebony by using a flush trim router bit w/ over sized bearing to create the desired reveal. If chip-out were to occur at the routing stage I would be in deep trouble. Thankfully, everything went smoothly.

Slots for Ebony Splines

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

Admittedly, this process made me a little nervous, but fortunately everything went as planned. Next, I need to make the ebony splines and glue them in place.
