I have the front and back sub-assemblies glued.  Below is a shot of a dry assembly of the front and back, glued, sub-assemblies.

Loose Tenons Finished

Monday, June 15th, 2015

All of my mortises and loose tenon stock are ready for assembly.  All that’s needed is to taper the legs and round over a few edges.

Double loose tenons.  Really happy with the fit.

Double loose tenons for the riser rails.  Slipped in like a glove.002

Mistake, oh no!

Sunday, June 14th, 2015

Ok – Confession time. I made my first mistake on this build (last?), but it was easy to fix.

I mistakenly had the wrong edge down when making the second mortise in one of the rails for my double loose tenons. This resulted in the mortises being too close together. I took a deep breathe and made the mortise in the correct spot. I filled the mistake mortise in order to strengthen the walls between the mortises.

The mistake will be hidden and nobody will ever know. Keep it on the down low!

What the rest of the double mortises look like (with test loose tenons installed – need to still make these from walnut and longer):
